Good Day (12.9.15)

I think we have officially hit the turning point in Chris's recovery.  He stayed awake for most of the day, watching TV shows, taking a bath, going to his doctor's appointment, and drinking lots of fluids.  He had us laughing at the doctor's office when he was allowed to have his bands off for 20 minutes or so by trying to sing "Mares eat oats".  We've learned that, when he can talk, he should focus on speaking slowly and clearly, over-enunciating each syllable.  This will help retrain his muscles to speak correctly.  They also measured his ability to open his mouth and he is at 20 mm.  The average for 7 days post-surgery is 7 mm, so he is doing ridiculously well.

For now, they asked that Chris not talk as his left joint is a bit swollen and not exactly in the correct place.  The doctor put tight elastics on his jaw, which could become loose if he talks.  The hope is that the tight elastics will help with the joint healing.

He's feeling more muscle spasms in his face as his muscles begin to come back to life.  Not fun, but a good sign of healing.  He's walking more on his own and was even able to walk up to the doctor's office without a wheel chair today.

All in all, a good day!
